Today marks World Diabetes Day and as a parent of a child living with Type 1 diabetes, I thought I should do my part to raise awareness.
Despite the many misconceptions, type 1 is not diet related or down to lifestyle choices, infact it is nothing you can do to stop it. It is the bodies immune system attacking itself and destroying the insulin producing cells (beta cells) in the pancreas.
I failed to notice the symptoms relating to type 1 as many of these in a child can be put down to other things and in my sons case they were several times by GPS and the hospital. But this condition effects over 29,000 children in the U.K. and sadly it is increasing particularly in children under 5. lace coverd with long sleeve wear of the wedding
So please just take a minute today to familiarise yourself with these symptoms, for yourself and a child.
